Sensorfact has made something that used to be complicated simple: monitoring a factory's consumption using plug-and-play wireless sensors and subscription software, without lengthy projects. However, it was designed for machinery and manufacturing SMEs. Those managing buildings or requiring certified measurements and active control have alternatives better suited to their needs. This guide compares them.
For transparency: UTwin, one of the alternatives presented below, is our software. We make this clear from the outset and, as with every platform in this comparison, also explain the situations in which it is not the right choice.
According to the official documentation, the Sensorfact model combines three elements: easy installation, intelligent software and personalised recommendations. Specifically:
The reported figures indicate more than 4,000 customers and over 300 employees, with a presence in dozens of countries and a dedicated website for Italy. Its real strength is how quickly it can get started: for a manufacturing SME starting from scratch, it offers the shortest path from decision to first data.
The reasons for comparing Sensorfact with other platforms relate to the scope of its model:
The four most relevant alternatives, selected to cover different use cases; each software name links to our dedicated in-depth article.
| Software | Strengths | Hardware included | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| UTwin | The same wireless-sensor-plus-cloud model, adapted for buildings: energy, water, gas and environmental data, with remote AI control, CMMS and a digital twin | Yes: smart meters and sensors supplied | Buildings and multi-site portfolios: retail, hotels, care homes and offices |
| Energy Team (CloE) | Monitoring using in-house manufactured meters, plus services for energy audits, ISO 50001, demand response and incentives | Yes: proprietary meters | Industry requiring certified measurement and compliance |
| Zerynth | Italian industrial IoT platform providing hardware and software to connect machinery and production lines, with energy among its use cases | Yes: IoT hardware | Factories that need complete machine-level data, not just consumption |
| Metron | SaaS energy management system with AI for optimising energy-intensive processes; Italian headquarters in Milan | No | Enterprise process industries (cement, steel, paper and food) |
UTwin is our platform and applies to buildings the same model that Sensorfact applies to factories: wireless sensors and smart meters supplied directly, installation without cabling or operational downtime, and cloud software available by subscription.
The difference lies in what it can do: in addition to monitoring energy, water, gas and environmental parameters, its integrated AI remotely adjusts building systems according to outdoor weather and actual space occupancy, while the native CMMS within the digital twin turns anomalies into work orders.
For retail sites, smaller corporate offices, hotels, care homes and supermarkets, it provides building-system control with an investment up to 70% lower than that of a traditional BMS. For monitoring the consumption of individual production machines, Sensorfact and industrial platforms remain the better fit.
Energy Team is an established Italian specialist in monitoring, offering the CloE cloud platform, in-house manufactured meters and services covering energy audits, ISO 50001, demand response and incentive applications. It is a natural next step when a project grows beyond operational monitoring: industrial-grade measurement and regulatory requirements handled by the same provider.
Zerynth is an Italian industrial IoT platform founded in Pisa in 2015. It provides hardware and software to connect machinery and production lines, and reports around 200 manufacturing companies as customers. Energy monitoring is one use case alongside production, downtime and machine health. It is an alternative to consider when energy is one of several variables in a factory digitalisation project, rather than the only one.
Metron is a SaaS energy management system (EMS) headquartered in Milan, Italy, designed to optimise energy-intensive process-industry operations using artificial intelligence. Its reported figures include more than 200 customers across over 22,000 sites in sectors such as cement, steel, paper, and food and beverage.
Where Sensorfact delivers monitoring in days, Metron delivers an enterprise optimisation project: two different scales of the same problem.
The criterion that works in our projects is to ask what should happen in the month after installation: who reviews the data, who decides, and who takes action. From there:
For a complete overview of this category, see our guide to energy management software and the EMS guide.
It was designed for manufacturing SMEs and machine-level monitoring. For shops, offices, hotels and care homes, where savings come from HVAC systems, lighting and automation, the comparison should focus on platforms designed for buildings.
It depends on the intended use. For operational monitoring and identifying waste, yes, that is their strength. For mandatory energy audits, incentive applications or measurements with tax-related validity, always check with the supplier which instrument class and certification are required. This is the distinction between monitoring and certified measurement.
They apply the same model to different environments: wireless sensors and cloud software for factories on one side and buildings on the other. If the consumption to be monitored is in shops, offices, hotels or care homes, UTwin is suited to that environment and adds active control and integrated maintenance. If it is in production machinery, Sensorfact remains the more appropriate choice.
With plug-and-play wireless sensors, implementation takes days rather than months: no dedicated cabling and no operational downtime. This applies to factories as well as buildings. The main factors affecting the timeline are the number of sites and the availability of people who can provide access to electrical panels.
Before migrating, ask the outgoing provider for a complete export of historical data in open formats such as CSV, and ask the new provider about its import procedure. Historical data makes year-to-year comparisons and savings verification possible; losing it means starting again from the baselines.
Before choosing, answer two questions: where is the consumption you need to monitor (machinery or buildings), and what should happen after an alert (should a person intervene or should a system adjust itself)? With these answers, comparing Sensorfact with its alternatives becomes a matter of context, and product demonstrations can be shorter.
